Sophie Bortolussi
Sophie Bortolussi was born in France where she started her training in modern, contemporary and improvisational dance.
In 2002, Sophie received a grant from the French Ministry Of Culture and Communication and a full scholarship from The Martha Graham Center of Contemporary Dance and moved to New York.
In 2003, Sophie became a member of The Martha Graham Ensemble and, a year later, of the Martha Graham Company.
In 2005, Sophie started working with Martha Clarke, on multiple projects. Most recently she was a principal dancer in the critically acclaimed Off-Broadway show Garden of Earthly Delights and in Angel Reapers. She also performed with AMDaT and Drastic Action/ Aviva Geismar.
Sophie is a founding member of Nu Dance Theater. Her collaboration with Eva Perrotta began in France in 2001 while choreographing Sucré-Salé, a 50 minute show presented in various venues in France and awarded the First Prize of Public of the annual Senss Festival for Emerging Choreographers. In 2004, Sophie's and Eva's artistic paths crossed again with the conceptualization, development and direction of Day Dream, a video dance, in which three eerie characters found their way from dream to reality. Sophie became Choreographer Assistant for Nu Dance Theater in 2007 and played an essential role in its latest creations La Chambre Renversée, Conciliabule, Hinterland, and Elle D'Elles.
In 2009, Sophie became the Artistic Associate of Nu Dance Theater. Sophie is also practicing Yoga, Butoh, Flamenco and Physical Theater. She has a degree in Philosophy from University of Paris 8, France.
